Serious crash north of Aylmer

A 2o-year-old Southgate Township man was airlifted to hospital after a two-vehicle crash north of Aylmer on Sunday night, June 1.

The occupants in the other  vehicle were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police Constable Troy Carlson said the crash occurred at 9:46 p.m. at the intersection of Imperial Road and Ron McNeil Line.

A Ford pickup truck was travelling south on Imperial Road when a Toyota car which was travelling west on Ron McNeil Line failed to stop for a stop sign at Imperial Road, Const. Carlson said.

The car ended up in the southwest ditch while the pickup spun and came to rest on the driver’s side at the southwest corner of the intersection.

Occupants of the Toyota car were extricated from the vehicle by Malahide firefighters.

The driver of the car, a 21-year-old Niagara Falls man and a male seated in the front passenger seat were not injured.

The Toyota driver was later charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm and operating a motor vehicle over the legal limit causing bodily harm.

The 20-year-old Southgate man, who was seated in the backseat behind the driver, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital.

He was listed in stable condition on Tuesday morning, June 3.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 71-year-old Tillsonburg man, his 67-year-old wife and their 15-year-old granddaughter from Bayham were taken to hospital with minor injuries and later released.
