More Essay House entrants await refunds

Several entrants of the failed Essay House contest re-cently contacted the Aylmer Express either through its website or Facebook page asking for more information about the contest to win a house that closed on April 30.

Most said they wanted their $100 entry fee back as soon as possible.

As of Monday, June 30, on-ly one woman was known to have had a partial refund of her entry fee. She received $78.93 by registered mail on June 11. The contest’s Facebook page had said $7 of each entry fee would be used to cover the cost of return money orders.

This is shameful. A lot of hard-working average folk gave the Brydges money. If we wanted to donate $100, we would have done so to the charity of our choice. Our role was not to supplement the purchase price for the home so that the Brydges would receive what they think is an appropriate price. Thank you, Aylmer Express, for being the only news source to take up the story of a contest (was it really a contest?) gone bad.
