Stolen truck takes out hydro pole

A reported stolen pickup truck struck a hydro pole south of Aylmer early Sunday morning, July 20 which resulted in a power outage for many residents in the area.

Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police Constable Troy Carlson said a grey 2004 Ford pickup truck was travelling south on Imperial Road at Sparta Line at 2:57 a.m. when it crossed into the northbound lane, left the road and struck a hydro pole in the east ditch.

The driver and any passengers that may have been inside fled the scene on foot, Const. Carlson said.

The crash caused severe damage to the truck as well as damaging the hydro pole and transformer.

A power outage in the area resulted from the crash.
