Head-on crash results in minor injuries

The drivers of two vehicles were taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries after a head-on crash east of Aylmer along Talbot Line (Highway 3) just west of Heritage Line on Tuesday, Sept. 9.

The collision happened at 3:43 p.m. and Talbot Line was closed in the area for about an hour and a half for the investigation and clean-up.

Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police Constable Troy Carlson said a 2006 grey Honda car driven by a 29-year-old Aylmer woman was travelling west on Talbot Line while a 2006 grey Pontiac car driven by a 30-year-old Aylmer man was eastbound.

He said the Honda crossed over the centre line and collided head-on with the Pontiac.

Both cars ended up against a guardrail on the south side of the road.

“The collision occurred on a straight and level section of dry roadway,” Const. Carlson said.

Malahide firefighters and Thames Emergency Medical Services were on scene to assist.

The driver of the Honda had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters and was taken to hospital with minor injuries. She was later released.

The driver of the Pontiac was also transported to hospital with minor injuries and later released.

Const. Carlson said both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

He added neither alcohol nor distracted driving were factors.

The woman driving the Honda was charged with careless driving.
