Funds raised in memory of Josh Field

Field donationKathryn Field, left, and her husband Nigel of Belmont accepted a $301.35 donation from Dad N Daughters Fish and Chips owner Rodger Greenlaw of Aylmer on Thursday night, Oct. 30. The money, collected by customer donations over the summer from the restaurant’s juice fountain, went towards the Josh Field Support Network. The couple established the network in memory of their 17-year-old son Josh who died on June 3, 2009 in an automobile crash after he had been distracted behind the wheel when he reached for a ringing cell phone. The distraction caused Josh to wander across the road and lose control of his vehicle. The family donated Josh’s organs and his parents started the network in his name to provide comfort and support to families in similar situations and to educate drivers about the dangers of distracted driving. The donation will go towards purchasing items for the care packages the network gives to families who wait up to three days while arrangements are being made for suitable organ transplant recipients at London Health Sciences Centre. The packages include a micro-fleece blanket, food vouchers for the hospital restaurant and a wash kit.
