Yarmouth Heritage Area receives Palmer grant

Yarmouth Natural Heritage Area has received a $42,500 grant from the Estate of Dorothy Fay Palmer.

The grant was announced by Catfish Creek Conservation Authority officials on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

Located on Sparta Line east of Sparta, the money would be used to plant new trees, attract native wildlife species and enhance the wetlands at the 208 acre property.

The Yarmouth tract includes the Herb Kebbel Wetland and another area being developed as an additional wetland.

CCCA General Manager Kim Smale called the Yarmouth Natural Heritage Area “one of the most important Carolinian habitats in the Catfish Creek watershed and the Carolinian Life Zone.”

He added the donation was “one of the most important in the 60 year history of the CCCA.”
