Hundreds of Nativities shown in Port Burwell

Betty Elliott, left, and her daughter Patricia Baker set up over 380 Christmas Nativities from their joint collection in the Parish Hall next to Port Burwell Trinity Anglican Church for a free display that was open to the public on Friday, Dec. 12. The public display would continue on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 1-8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 14 from 1-6 p.m. Donations were welcomed. Seen behind Mrs. Elliott and Mrs. Baker was the mother’s favourite Nativity set that is acrylic and looks like crystal. The display, which took up the entire Parish Hall and part of the kitchen, also included 88 separate angels. Mrs. Elliott bought her first Nativity set in 1957 and lives near Kincardine. Her daughter and her family lives in Copenhagen and are members of the Port Burwell church. The massive display takes about a week to pack up, transport and set up and about the same amount of time to tear down, pack up and take home. The Nativities come from all around the world including ones from Israel, Mexico, Romania, Peru, San Salvador, South Africa, the Philippines and Germany.
