Malahide tax levy to rise 6.46 percent

Malahide councillors meeting as budget committee Wednesday, March 4, recommended that they formally adopt a 2015 township budget calling for a 6.46-percent increase in the municipal property tax levy.

For an average residential home, that means paying an additional $103.86 to Malahide in property tax this year.

Malahide plans $11,846,920 in spending this year.

Of that, $6,150,390 will be contributed by local property taxpayers, up $373,153 from last year.

Over the past four years I have done everything but beg Malahide Township Council to adopt budget restraints on the Complex, fire stations and employee hiring practices, even garbage pickup. I know if they had listened to my suggestions over the past four years we would be looking at a minimal tax increase. Maybe Malahide should take a look at what Aylmer Council Is proposing for a 2015 tax increase.

What in the world is Malahide Township Council thinking? Who gets a 6.46% increase in wages this day in age? Wake up people!

  • Ron Shacleton

If Council would listen to Jim Crane’s suggestions of not hiring new employees when someone resigns or retires for any reason, closing at least one fire station, operating the Complex in a more efficient manner, and picking up garbage every two weeks I am sure this would result in considerable savings.

    I support Jim Crane’s ideas 99.9%.
