Neighbours protest proposed severances

Summers Corners residents sent letters and turned up in person at an Elgin County land division committee meeting Wednesday, July 22, where members deferred a decision on five applications to sever lots in a subdivision proposed by John and Mary Harms.

The Harms sought to sever in half four lots that had been approved for development along a new Hilltop Lane cul-de-sac southwest of Highway 3 and Springfield Road, along with an adjoining property. That would have effectively expanded what had been a four-lot subdivision to 10 lots.

But neighbours had a variety of objections, and committee members agreed that reports, such as a study to confirm how much water was available in the area for additional individual residential wells, had to be completed before any decisions could be made.
