Practicing Mad Science in Belmont

Isaac Anjema, left, Mad Scienceand Ben Flikkema poked their fingers into a beaker filled with water and some “hydrophobic” blue sand that was floating on top during a fun but still educational Mad Science session provided by scientist Polly Helix (played by Jennifer Vanoorspronk) at the Belmont Library on Tuesday morning, July 28. The theme of the session was Playing With Chemistry. About 25 children attended the session along with some of their parents. The Mad Science activity was part of the free weekly programs held every Tuesday until Aug. 11 at the Belmont Library as part of the Summer Reading Club. Button Mania! will have the children attending creating buttons with Maker Space stations on Aug. 4 and the closing party will be held Aug. 11. Both events will run from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
