Medway edges EESS 2-1 in field hockey

webfieldhockeyTori Vanderspank of East Elgin Secondary School rushed the ball down the field during a Thames Valley Regional girls field hockey semifinal against Medway at City Wide Sports Park on Thursday, Oct. 22. The match should have been a pushover for Medway, the top-ranked team in the league with a regular season record of 10 wins and one loss, going up against EESS with a record of three wins, five losses and three ties. But East Elgin drew first blood about mideway through the opening half to take a 1-0 lead off a Madi McQuiggan goal. Medway tied the score before the end of the half, though, and tallied again in the second for a narrow 2-1 victory, ending EESS’s season.
