Motorcyclist killed in crash west of Vienna

John Masales, 41, of Bayham was killed after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a van on Richmond Road at Vienna Line west of Vienna on Sunday evening, Sept. 18.

Ontario Provincial Police Constable Liz Melvin said the crash occurred at 8:37 p.m. when a black Honda motorcycle that was travelling north on Richmond Road and a blue Chrysler van that was travelling west on Vienna Line collided in the intersection.

“Vienna Line is governed by stop signs,” Const. Melvin said.

Mr. Masales died at the scene, Const. Melvin said.

The passenger on the motorcycle, a 37-year-old Malahide man, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and the four occupants of the van, all females in their teens, were also taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Three of the teenagers, including the 18-year-old driver of the van, are from Malahide while the fourth is from South-West Oxford.

Local firefighters, Elgin OPP officers and paramedics from both Elgin-St. Thomas and Oxford emergency medical services responded to the crash.

The investigation of the crash continued .
