Aylmer Baptist Church concert celebrates 200 years

aybapconcertAylmer Baptist Church music director Neil Whyte, left, had Rob Earnshaw turn the pages for him while he played a special concert to celebrate the church’s 200th anniversary on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 16. Entitled “Toe Tappers and Pot Boilers,” Mr. Whyte’s piano performance featured a selection of songs by George Gershwin, Claude Debussy, Scott Joplin, Franz Liszt, Frederic Chopin and a “Broadway Tribute” medley from Oklahoma, The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady and The King and I. The celebration of Aylmer Baptist Church’s 200th anniversary continues on Saturday, Oct. 29 with an open house in the lower level of the church from 1-4 p.m. which will include tours and displays. The celebration concludes on Sunday, Oct. 30 with an anniversary service starting at 10 a.m. with featured speaker Rev. Das Sydney, a former pastor of the church, and a catered lunch.
