Muriel M. Crocker Mercer
CROCKER MERCER, Muriel M. (née Ashton) of Aylmer, ON, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Saturday, June 5, 2021, in her 96th year. Muriel lived her life in the Aylmer-St. Thomas area. Wife of the late Jack Crocker (1981) and the late F. A. “John” Mercer (2004). Mother of Karl Crocker (Donna), Betty McCallum (Kenneth), Jane Watters (late Bob), Gail Hartop (Bart), Donald Crocker (Rita), and the late Carol Betterley (George). Remembered by John Mercer’s family. Muriel is also survived by 11 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Brothers, Harley Ashton and Harold Ashton predeceased her. Born in Yarmouth Twp., ON, October 19, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Murray and Adra (née Wilcox) Ashton. Muriel worked as a Registered Nurses Assistant at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital for 20 years. She was a member of New Sarum Baptist Church. A private family visitation will be held at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160), followed by a graveside service at Orwell Cemetery. As per the directive of the Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO), attendance numbers will be restricted, and a properly worn mask or face covering is required in the funeral home and at the cemetery. Flowers respectfully declined. Memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the STEGH Foundation will be gratefully acknowledged.
