Donald Murray Farquhar

Donald Murray Farquhar 80, passed away peacefully at home in Belmont on May 7, 2023. Even though a failing body took him away from this world, his loving heart left a beacon of light for all in our family.

Donald is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lorinda (Stresman).  Loved by their sons Mike and Jeff (Jennifer).  Don or Big Dad as he was called by some, was a very proud of his grandchildren; Erica Lin (Robert), Michelle (Julie), Taylor (Ian) and Garrett as well as several cherished great grandchildren.  Predeceased by his parents Murray and Jean.  He will be sorely missed by his sister Marion Schneider (Fred) and family as well as his close friend Curtis Mahoney.

Don met the love of his life at Canadian Timken and for almost 60 years they enjoyed traveling, theatre, musical entertainment, the joys of their farm and most of all, their family.  Whether it was in the stands at a hockey arena, a track meet, at a baseball, soccer of football field, an auditorium for a play or a concert, he was there with encouragement, support and proud as punch!

Don started working at Timken right after high school, pursing several different vocations before proceeding to focus on a career in power engineering.  He started at LHSC, worked at Parkwood and finished his career at Labatt Brewery as a stationary engineer in 1988 where he then retired to the farm.

As per Don’s wishes, cremation has taken place and his cremated remains will be interred in Dorchester Union Cemetery at a later date in a private family setting.
