Gerald J. McKean

McKEAN, Gerald J., formerly of St. Thomas and Orwell, passed away at the Parkwood Institute, London on Friday, August 24, 2018, in his 93rd year.  Beloved husband for 58 years to the late Beatrice (née Helmer) McKean (2009). Father of David McKean (Debbie) of Courtland, and Gerald McKean of Fairground.  Grandfather of Sara McKean-Schulthies (Isaac) of Renfrew, and Heather Schaas (John) of Aylmer.  Great-grandfather of Mason Schulthies of Renfrew.  Brother of Audrey Sellon, Doris McKelvie, both of Dartmouth, NS, late Ronald, late James, and the late Raymond McKean.  Also survived by several in-laws, as well as many nieces and nephews.  Born in Halifax, NS, September 6, 1925, he was the son of the late Gordon and Hilda (née Selvage) McKean.  Gerald was a retired employee of the Carnation Co., Aylmer.  He was a member of Lord Elgin Branch #41, Royal Canadian Legion, St. Thomas.  During the Second World War, Gerald served in Canada with the RCAF.    In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.  A private family graveside service will be held at Aylmer Cemetery.  Memorial donations to Diabetes Canada will be gratefully acknowledged.  “Remember me with laughter, not tears, for I have led a long and good life.” Arrangements entrusted to the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160).
