John Henry Zamecnik

At the LHSC (Victoria Campus) on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, with family members nearby, at the age of 88, John Henry Zamecnik of London, formerly a resident of Tillsonburg and tobacco grower at the family farm in Vienna. Dedicated usher and member of the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Tillsonburg, and very dedicated member of St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus #3212, Tillsonburg. “A family member remembers that John loved church. He was very faithful.” John, in his later years, was a Maintenance Operations Custodian at the Tillsonburg Town Centre Mall. Born in Katov, Czechoslovakia, son of the late Steve Zamecnik and the late Johanna (Sebesta) Zamecnik. Predeceased by his much-loved wife and best friend of 54 years, Lena Elizabeth (Mrakava) Zamecnik (January 3, 2006). Loved father and father-in-law of: Gary Zamecnik and his wife Jeanie, Tillsonburg; Debbie and her husband Boris Markowski, London; and Lorie and her husband Andy Hunter, Tucson, Arizona. Proud and loving grandpa of: Aeron Chown (Chris), Brodie Zamecnik (Karyn), AJ Markowski, and his precious great-grandchildren: Gray and Lander Chown. Survived by a brother, Walter Zamecnik of Tillsonburg, and the late Mary (Kersten) Zamecnik (October 5, 2011); and a sister-in-law, Jenny Zamecnik of Langton, and late brother, Ed (August 30, 2012). Predeceased by a sister, Mary Zak (December 17, 2017). Survived by in-laws: Anne Tataj (Charlie), Toronto; Olga Ryan (Bill), St. Thomas; Carolyn Mrakava, Cobourg (the late Frank – June 30, 2016); the late Mary Holubek (December 5, 2012) (and the late Michael – December 27, 2011). Also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate John’s life and family legacy was held on April 9, 2018, at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Tillsonburg, by Rev. Father Tom Ferrera. Interment followed at the Tillsonburg Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations in John’s memory to the “St. Mary’s Building Fund” or the “Heart & Stroke Foundation” would be appreciated by the family.
