William G. Hawley

HAWLEY, William G. (September 13, 1936 – September 12, 2021) –

It is with heavy hearts, we the family wish to announce the peaceful passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to many, William (Bill) G. Hawley, at the University Hospital – London Health Sciences Centre, surrounded by the love of his family, on September 12, 2021, at the age of 84. Born in South Walsingham, to the late Henry and late Meta (Rockefeller) Hawley. Bill is survived by his loving and much-loved wife Ruth (nee Eddy) Hawley, of RR3 Tillsonburg. Always a devoted father to his sons Dale (Angela) Hawley, of Tillsonburg and to Dean Hawley, of Tillsonburg. Proud grandfather to Daniel (Jessica), and their children Luke, Zephyr, and Brindley; and Kristy and their daughter Brooklyn. Bill is survived by a sister-in-law Mrs. Laura Hawley, of Tillsonburg and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Survived by a step daughter-in-law Shelley Squires, three step-sons: Robert Squires (Isabelle), P.E.I.; Liam Squires (Alanna), Barrie, Ontario; Joe Squires, P.E.I.. Predeceased by his first wife Frances (Turley) Hawley (1992). Predeceased by a brother John “Bud” Hawley and by two sisters Julia Marie “Julie” Cooper and Donna Mead. Also predeceased by a step-son Clarence Squires. Bill was a very strong individual who was known and respected by many people across Ontario. He was a proud farmer with a good, caring, and generous heart. Member of the Canadian Heavy Horse Pullers, which lends to why he was an extremely strong individual. Over the years, alongside his much-loved family, he raised pigs, dairy cattle, and beef cattle, at his RR3 Tillsonburg farm. Bill also served other farmers with deadstock removal services.

In Celebrating Bill’s Legacy, a Funeral Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 16th, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes- Burial and Cremation Services Inc. Chapel, 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg, by Deacon Andre DeDecker, of St. Mary’s R.C. Church. Interment follows in the Hawley Family Plot at the Delmer Cemetery. All know knew Bill are invited to attend public visitation on Wednesday, September 15th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Due to government covid-related restrictions, all guests must pre-register for an available time slot via Bill’s online tribute page at www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com or by calling the funeral home between 9a.m. and 4p.m. All attendees are required to wear a face covering and are asked to always maintain social distancing guidelines. All who knew Bill are encouraged to offer their support and care by posting photos, by sharing special memories and hugs from home on Bill’s online tribute page. Memorial donations to the “Alzheimer Society – Oxford” or to the “Canadian Cancer Society” would be gratefully acknowledged by the family and can be made through the Maurice J.
