Body found on beach in Port Stanley
The body of a 65-year-old London man was discovered just west of Little Beach in Port Stanley on Tuesday morning, June 3.
The man was identified as Antonio Romao by Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police shortly after 9:30 p.m. that evening.
Elgin OPP Constable Troy Carlson said a local resident out for a walk discovered the body lying on the rocky shore of Lake Erie at 10:37 a.m. and immediately contacted police.
Police discovered the man had been fishing from the shore near were his body was found.
Police found fishing equipment and other personal effects near his body as well as Mr. Romao’s vehicle in a nearby parking lot.
Const. Carlson said Mr. Romao’s family last saw him at about 2 p.m. on Monday, June 2.
“Police do not suspect foul play and the investigation indicated that the body had not been in the water nor had it washed up on shore from another location,” Const. Carlson said.
A post mortem was scheduled for Wednesday, June 4 at London University Hospital to determine a cause of death.
Const. Carlson said the incident was not related to a recent search for a possible missing person off the west break wall of Port Stanley pier.
