Yurek wins re-election, but LIberals get majority
Incumbent Progressive Conservative MPP Jeff Yurek, left, backed by his daughter Maggie and wife Jenn, thanked supporters as he gave his victory speech following the June 12 provincial election in Elgin-Middlesex-London riding. He won in a landslide with almost half of all the votes cast. He promised his first task on returning to the Ontario Legislature would be to re-introduce “Ryan’s Law” as a Private Member’s Bill. The proposed law, in memory of Ryan Gibbons, a 12-year-old who died at Straffordville Public School in 2012, would standardize how schools handled pupils who suffered from asthma. “I’m not going to let the NDP stop me this time,” he vowed. Meanwhile, across Ontario, the Liberals won a majority of seats, bettering their previous minority government position.
