Police investigate Belmont fires
Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police have asked for the public’s assistance in finding a suspect or suspects who might have set at least three fires in Belmont and the surrounding area over the past month.
A fire that started around 2 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24 completely destroyed a Dyer Street home and was believed to have begun in the garage.
The lone occupant was able to get out safely.
While still at the house fire, another fire was reported at a barn in the Belmont Road and Wilson Line area.
The barn, which contained hay, was completely destroyed.
That fire is also thought to have been deliberately set.
A small fire appeared to be intentionally set sometime between Aug. 4 and 11 in the backyard porch area of a home on Lorne Street in Belmont.
Anyone with information on any of these fires is asked to contact the Elgin OPP.
