Community paramedicine for Bayham

Elgin County councillors at a meeting Tuesday, Oct. 21, approved a two-year pilot program where ambulance paramedics will make preventive visits to the homes of patients who frequently call for emergency help.

Medavie, the contractor providing land ambulances services for Elgin and St. Thomas, has received Ontario funding for training and set-up costs, and has promised to absorb an estimated $5,000 in travel costs for the visits.

The program is expected to be running by next spring.
