Big rent hike for Springfield concession booth?

Malahide councillors are considering raising the annual rent for a concession booth at Malahide Community Place in Springfield from $1,500 to $10,500 over two to three years.

At a budget committee meeting Monday, Feb. 9, Finance Director Suzanna Dieleman said she’d studied the booth rent after a taxpayer raised it at a session a week earlier.

But Mayor David Mennill and Councillor Max Moore advised proceeding cautiously, saying the booth operator had done a lot more for the ball diamonds that just sell snacks over the years. They feared driving her away with too big a jump in rent.
