Spitfires shutout Sailors
Aylmer Jr. C Spitfires forward Jesiah Sweetland, right, battled for the puck with Port Stanley Sailors defenseman Gage Zehr (of Aylmer) during first period action at East Elgin Community Complex on Wednesday night, Oct. 28. The host Spitfires won 4-0 with goalie Andrew Harriman-Duke, who was named first star of the game, earning the shutout with 24 saves. Cody Underhill was named second star and scored his team’s first goal on the power play mid-way through the first period and notched two assists. Sweetland was named the third star with a power play goal and an assist. Aylmer’s other goals were scored by Luke Regier and James Collins with assists by Luke Bettencourt, Kyle DiCicco and Ryan Van Roestel. Despite their near spotless record, the Spitfires (20 points) remain in third place in the Southern Ontario Junior Hockey League standings behind Dorchester (13 wins, one loss, 26 points) and Exeter (11 wins, three losses, 22 points), both of which have played three more games so far this season. The Spitfires next host Lucan on Saturday, Oct. 31, puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
