Getting dunked to Strike Out ALS
Antonio Martinez took a turn in the dunk tank during the first ever Aylmer Strikes Out ALS fundraising event held behind Ruby’s Cookhouse off John Street North in Aylmer on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 20. The event included a barbecue, an ice cream vendor, silent auction, children’s bouncy rides, an “ice bucket challenge” and other fun activities for children. All proceeds went directly to the Toronto General Western-Stem Cell Research Trials. The event was organized by the friends of Kim Lewis of Copenhagen and her husband Spencer. Ms. Lewis was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, in February. She can no longer talk and must use a walker to get around after leading a normal life a year ago. Ms. Lewis will participate in the stem cell research trials using an experimental treatment that will hopefully begin soon at Toronto’s Sunnybrook Hospital.
