Meeting to save Springfield school Monday, Oct. 3, 7 p.m.
A group of parents will hold a public meeting at St. John’s United Church in Springfield starting at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, intent on preserving the village’s public elementary school.
Jessica Goodwill has two children now at Springfield Public School, and three more she hopes will be able to attend there.
“I don’t think it will be easy,” she said of the campaign to keep the school open, sparked by a tentative proposal from Thames Valley District School Board to close it as well as South Dorchester and New Sarum, in favour of a new “super school” in Belmont.
The organizers were hoping for a big turnout, she said, and a speaker who had been involved in saving an elementary school in Kintore under similar circumstances had been invited to outline what the community needed to do to keep its school open.
