Learning about the forest

Assumption Catholic ElementaCarolinian FFry School Grade 7 pupils got ready to make like Monarch butterflies at the Monarch Migration Madness station during the Carolinian Forest Festival at Springwater Conservation Area on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Over 500 London District Catholic School Board Grade 6 and 7 pupils visited Springwater on that day and the next for the annual Forest Festival to learn more about the Carolinian Life Zone, forest ecosystems, species at risk, stewardship, conservation and climate change by participating in hands-on fun but informative activities. The Carolinian Forest Festival was about to hold its first ever Public Day at Jaffa Environmental Education Centre located just south of Springwater on Saturday, Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free family event would include guided hikes through the forest, archery and lots of kid-friendly activities. Local birds of prey and reptile presentations were also to be held every 45 minutes beginning at 10:15 p.m.
