Iep Poortinga

POORTINGA, Iep of Aylmer and formerly of Harrietsville passed away at Chartwell Home on Sunday, January 6, 2019 in his 83rd year. Beloved husband of Nelly (Beekhof) Poortinga and the late Stella (Douma) Poortinga (1987). Dear father of Randy Poortinga (Bettina) of Harrietsville, Monica Paulin (Christian) of San Jose, CA, Diane Boonstoppel (Marco) of Dumfries, New Brunswick. Step-father of Carla (Martin), Carmen (Rick) and Edward (Sheri). Loving grandfather to Caleb, Naomi, Amber, Benjamin, Savanna, Brooke, Lucas, Lauren, Melissa, Jessica, Kayla, Curtis, Kevin, Carissa, Brandon, Kaitlyn, Justin and Ryan. Brother of Richard Poortinga (Tena) of Ingersoll. Brother-in-law of Ann and Theresa Poortinga, Hennie Douma, John Douma and Theresa Visscher (Albert). Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brothers Jan (2015) and John (2017).  Born in Ede, The Netherlands on January 29, 1936, son of the late Rinze and Dirkje “Dora” (Van Voorst) Poortinga. He was a dairy farmer. Iep had a passion for raising and breeding rare birds and was an avid “Feather Fancier”.  Visitation at the  Aylmer Christian Reformed Church on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where the funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 11:00 am. Interment, Aylmer Cemetery.
