Fire contained to attic in Straffordville

Firefighters managed to contain a fire that started in the attic of a home in Straffordville on Tuesday, March 4.

Bayham Fire Chief Randy White said more than a dozen firefighters from the Straffordville and Port Burwell stations with support from the Tillsonburg Fire Department were on scene on Sandytown Road just off of Plank Road for over two hours.

The residents were not home when the fire started and were notified by a neighbor.

While the fire was contained to the attic, Chief White said about $50,000 damage was done to the home due to the loss of the roof and ceiling structure above the attached garage.

The contents of the home were saved.

The cause was undetermined but Chief White said an electrical issue was at the top of a list of limited possibilities with attic fires.
