Search ends for missing person in Port Stanley
Early on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 27, Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police called off a search for a possible missing person who was last seen by a witness disappearing off the pier in Port Stanley shortly after 6:20 p.m. the evening before.
No new information had been provided after the Elgin OPP appealed to the public for their assistance and a missing person report had not been received.
Elgin OPP Constable Troy Carlson said at 6:23 p.m. the prior evening, a witness on the main pier in Port Stanley observed someone bypass the security gate on the west break wall, walk out onto the pier and then disappear.
The witness became alarmed and contacted police.
And extensive search of the area was conducted that evening and continued in the morning by both water and land.
Officers also canvassed the area and checked licence plates to look for abandoned vehicles but found nothing that indicated someone had gone missing.
