Man injured in industrial fall

A St. Thomas man, 39, received serious but non-life threatening injuries to his face after he fell at a business under construction off Elm Street in Aylmer on the morning of Tuesday, May 27.

Aylmer Police Chief Andre Reymer said officers, Aylmer firefighters and paramedics were called to the work site at about 10:30 a.m.

The man was transported by ambulance to St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Chief Reymer said the “private contractor” fell about 12 feet after one of his safety guards failed.

Police notified the Ontario Ministry of Labour and would share photos and evidence they had gathered but Chief Reymer did not know if ministry officials would investigate or not.

Aylmer Police would not investigate further and considered the incident to be “an accident,” Chief Reymer concluded.

He would not release the name of the business under construction on the west side of Elm Street behind the former Imperial Tobacco plant.
