Lightning strikes damage two Aylmer homes

Two lightning strikes during an overnight thunderstorm damaged a pair of Aylmer homes in the early morning hours of July 23.

Aylmer Fire Chief Sam Taylor said 16 volunteer firefighters responded to the first lightning strike at 4:30 a.m. to a home on John Street South.

Electrical wires were downed and minimal damage was caused to the home.

Eleven firefighters responded the second call, this time to a Moore Avenue home at 7:48 a.m.

Chief Taylor said the second lightning strike had happened earlier in the morning and the damage was detected by a visitor to the resident.

Minimal damage to the home’s electrical and telephone systems was reported.
