Senior assaulted in own home

A 68-year-old man was assaulted in his Alexander Drive home in Aylmer by an intruder he encountered when returning there at about 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 28.

Aylmer Police Sergeant Nick Novacich said the homeowner was “confronted” by the intruder and the two struggled before the homeowner was struck and pushed to the ground.

The intruder then fled out the rear door of the home and took with him an “undisclosed” amount of property.

The homeowner was injured in the attack and was taken by ambulance to St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital for treatment of lacerations to his face and a broken orbital bone, Sgt. Novacich said.

He was released from hospital later that day.

Aylmer Police called in the St. Thomas Canine Unit to help with the investigation.

The area around the Alexander Drive home was searched but the suspect was not located.

The suspect is believed to be a white man in his early 20s, between five foot eight inches and five foot 10 inches tall with a thin build, short dark hair and wearing a dark blue jacket and carrying a red hand bag.
