Bayham approves 7.7% tax levy increase

Bayham residents are facing a 7.667 percent tax levy increase in 2016, most of which can be directly attributed to the HMCS Ojibwa submarine and the over $6-million loan defaulted by the Elgin Military Museum the municipality is forced to pay back to a bank.

Bayham councillors approved the 2016 operating budget during after an over two hour meeting on Tuesday night, Jan. 5.

The 2016 levy hike represents a $42.89 increase over 2015 to the annual tax bill for a average Bayham residential property assessed at $250,000.
