Three injured in pickup rollover near Belmont

Three men in their early 20s were injured, one suffering “life-altering” injuries, as a result of a single-vehicle rollover crash east of Belmont early Thursday, May 26.

Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police Constable Adam Crewdson said officers from both the Elgin OPP and Middlesex OPP responded to the crash on Dorchester Road near Avon Road at 12:05 a.m.

A Ford F-150 pickup truck was southbound on Dorchester Road when “a witness saw the head lights rolling,” Const. Crewdson said.

The pickup left the road, rolled and ejected two passengers, a Malahide man and an Aylmer man, both 20.

The driver, a 21-year-old Malahide man, was charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, two counts of driving while ability impaired causing bodily harm and young driver with a blood alcohol level above zero.

The accused was released from custody and is to appear in St. Thomas court on Tuesday, June 28.

All three men were taken to a London hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“However one was deemed to have life altering injuries,” Const. Crewdson said.
