Cr. Stevenson resigns from STEGH board over executive “overcompensation”

St. Thomas Councillor Linda Stevenson has resigned from the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital board of governors in protest of what she describes as attempts to skirt around the provincial salary cap for a new president and chief executive officer being sought by STEGH.

“I think the eye has to be on them,” she said about the STEGH board and other hospital boards in Ontario.

How they operated should be examined by the provincial government, including excessive secrecy, she said. All STEGH board sessions were closed to the public, except for an annual general meeting.

Chairman Melanie Taylor, in a written statement, said the board had “followed due process and I am confident we will make the best decision for ST. Thomas Elgin General Hospital.”
