Chartwell resident has his wet wish granted

Chartwell Aylmer Long-Term CarMomentthatMattere resident Roger Verbrugge, 87, middle, had his wish granted to swim once again at the Aylmer outdoor pool complex on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 25 as part of the retirement and nursing home’s Moments That Matter program. Helping Mr. Verbrugge navigate in the shallow end of the pool were lifeguards Erica Zimmer, left, Jaden Nesbitt, Sabryn Johnson and Nick Ormerod. Mr. Verbrugge, a retired tobacco farmer and home siding installer who used to live in Straffordville and then in the Eden area before moving into Chartwell Aylmer about five years ago, said it had been “many, many years” since he last swam. The monthly Moments That Matter program had previously granted two other wishes: one that sent a senior to camp, the other having a resident hold a newborn baby.
