Dorothy Newell

NEWELL, Dorothy Grace (nee Biden) (June 11, 1925 – February 9, 2022) –

Dorothy Grace Newell died peacefully at home in Tillsonburg, on Wednesday, February 9th, 2022, at the age of 96, surrounded by her 6 children. She is predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Charles Robert (Bob) Newell (2014), her son-in-law Wayne June (2012), her grandson David Kingsbury (2009), and her sister Evelyn Luesby, of Ottawa (2009).

Dorothy was born in Stockholm, Saskatchewan, the oldest of 5 daughters of Art and Lucile Biden. Her surviving sisters are Eva Perry, of Chatham, ON; Barbara Croswell, of Esterhazy, Saskatchewan; Phyllis Wheeler, of Ottawa, ON. She will be greatly missed by her six children who were at her side: Linda June, of London, ON; Bill Newell (Ann Beattie), Roseneath, ON; David Newell (Nancy Lunn), of Springfield, ON; Debbie Newell, of Tillsonburg, ON; Joanne Newell, of Chemainus, British Columbia; and Doug Newell, of Tillsonburg, ON. Dorothy was grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

During the World War Two effort, Dorothy worked in a factory that produced airplanes in Fort William (Thunder Bay). She was married in 1947. They lived in Tillsonburg after Bob graduated from the University of Toronto and raised their children on what is now Newell Road. Dorothy was artistic and taught ceramic lessons for many years with her friend Evelyn Gagnon. She enjoyed painting, often with her sisters during winters in Florida. She enjoyed her garden and was a member of the Tillsonburg Horticultural Society.
