Earl Melville Rose

Passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, October 10, 2018, at the age of 90 years, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital.  Born June 3, 1928 in Toronto, Ontario to Marjorie Tooley Rose (1949) and father Harold Elson Rose (1958).

A funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 15 in the Ostrander Funeral Home Chapel and was conducted by Pastor Paul Robinson. Interment will follow at the Straffordville Cemetery.

Earl was an avid hockey player, soccer player and sports enthusiast, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a collector of baseball hats numbering in the thousands. The New York Yankees were his all-time favourite sports team.

Earl was predeceased by his wife Margaret Elaine Kennedy Rose (2018), brother Murray Elson Rose (1985), infant daughter Lisa Ann Rose, and beloved dog Tim.

Earl leaves behind three daughters, Marjorie Rose (Bill Rogers, 1995), Penny Esseltine (Rick, 2005), and Patti Vellucci (Louie) and their mother Audrey Tait (Rose) McAvany; three grandchildren: Alexis (Tim), Kristiana, and Christopher; and two great-grandchildren (Theo and Charlie).

In the months and years ahead Kennedy, Rose, and Tait family members, as well as Earl’s wealth of friends from the Toronto, Aylmer, and Tillsonburg areas will remember his inherent kindness.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Toronto Humane Society in Earl’s memory would be much appreciated.
