Rudy Garner

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Rudy Garner of Tillsonburg, formerly of Straffordville at the age of 73 years. Beloved husband of 47 years to Susan (nee Stanat).  Father to Michael and his wife Jessica (nee Smith) Garner.  Proud Papa to Elizabeth Smith and Stephen Garner. Survived by his brother Dan Garner and his son Robert (Rosa), sister-in-law Karen Stanat (John Kerkhove), and brother-in-law Alex Stanat (Dianna) and their children AJ and Lexi. Predeceased by his parents Harold and Theresa (Fath) Garner and in-laws Art and Violet (Caron) Stanat.

Rudy and his wife started out share growing tobacco for their parents, and then moved to the Garner family farm outside of Straffordville where they grew tobacco and cash crops for 39 years before moving to town. Rudy worked part time with Agricorp for 26 years as a Yield Evaluator, then Crop Adjuster. He also volunteered his time for 39 years as an Auxiliary with the Ontario Provincial Police.

His family was his Pride and Joy, followed by his love of farming. His fun-loving spirit, easy going nature and his joy of getting out to talk with his neighbours about the “old days” of farming, made it easy to make friends with many.

Our many thanks for the exceptional care given to Rudy during this difficult journey by Dr. Breadner and his team at LRCP, nurses and doctors at STEGH Chemo Suite & STEGH Emerg, Dr. Foerster & Dr. Sondhi along with the Oxford Palliative Care team, the staff and volunteers at VON Sakura House & Dr. Jamie Cluett and staff at Tillsonburg Family physicians.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell St., Tillsonburg on Friday August 4, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and then 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Tillsonburg on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow at Tillsonburg Cemetery.
