Fishing family fun at Springwater

Jada Ryerse, 11, of Lyons was the first of her sisters to cast her line into the pond at Springwater Conservation Area on Saturday morning, July 25 for the annual Kids, Cops and Canadian Tire Fishing Derby. Hotdogs and drinks for the participating children were served for lunch and prizes were handed out at the end. The event was free for all of the anglers to participate but the usual $8 vehicle day pass had to be paid to enter the park. The event was sponsored by Fishing Forever, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding worthwhile fishing, conservation and education projects. The event was supported by the Catfish Creek Conservation Authority, the Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police, the Police Association of Ontario and Canadian Tire.
