Central Elgin special meeting on wind project Friday, Oct. 16, 9 a.m.
Central Elgin councillors will hold a special meeting this Friday morning, Oct. 16, at 9 a.m. to consider a small-scale windpower project proposed by Andreas Schneider.
He told councillors Tuesday night, Oct. 13, that the project would return more revenue to landowners than a large-scale development, use smaller windmills and effectively “lock out” big corporations from planting 100-metre tall turbines across Central Elgin’s landscape.
Several councillors sympathized with his project, but felt they had to wait to give the public some chance to comment, even if at short notice, given that Mr. Schneider was on a tight schedule to get an application for his development in to provincial regulators.
But Councillor Harold Winkworth, who views windmills as ugly, said he’d still have to be convinced the project was a good idea. “I don’t want to get up every morning and all I see if frigging windmills.”
