Family escapes kitchen fire
An adult and five children managed to escape from their South Street West home in Aylmer after a fire started in their kitchen early on Wednesday morning, June 1.
Aylmer Fire Chief Sam Taylor said volunteer firefighters, police officers and emergency medical services responded to the fire at the home located on the north side of South Street West near Caverly Road at 7:05 a.m.
When emergency personnel arrived, they found a kitchen fire which was quickly extinguished.
Chief Taylor said the adult and five children that were home at the time had evacuated the house after a smoke alarm alerted them of the fire.
The six residents of the home were checked by paramedics at the scene, he said.
“Possible cause (of the fire) was unattended cooking,” Chief Taylor said.
