Katherine Bak of host Aylmer Pool’s team swam Open Girls backstroke during a meet against Dorchester on Wednesday, Aug. 13. The meet involved 75 swimmers, and Aylmer won 373 points to 334. Aylmer will host this year’s eight-team championship meet on Saturday, Aug. 23.

Brandi Cook of host Springfield Brewers Girls Squirt baseball team uncorked a fast pitch during the second game of an Ontario Rural Softball Association “A” Division championship series against Innerkip on Thursday, Aug. 7. Springfield took that game, and the series in two straight.

Third baseman Mike Maris of the Springfield Brewers Men’s Fastball team watched his hit fly into the sky during an exhibition game against the Argentinian National Men’s squad at Malahide Community Place, Wednesday, June 25. The Argentinians won both that game and one against a St. Thomas Men’s Fastball allstar team.

Two competitors emerged from a series of nets over a water-filled ditch, the last obstacle in a 10-kilometre course for Extreme Elgin at Springwater Conservation Area, Saturday, June 21. The event was a fundraiser for the Elgin St. Thomas Community Foundation.

Just under 400 vans and pickup trucks filled the large lawn at Springwater Conservation Area on Saturday, June 14 for the 19th annual Van Fest.
