Renewed threat to Malahide school?
Malahide Deputy Mayor Jim Jenkins recently called on municipal politicians and the public to voice opposition to the potential closing of rural schools, and especially Springfield Public School, to the Ontario government and Elgin-Middlesex-London MPP Jeff Yurek.
At a township council meeting, Deputy Mayor Jenkins said he attended a meeting of the Community Schools Alliance for politicians concerned about rural school closings. They learned that provincial policy calling for consolidation of schools, rather than local boards, was driving rural school closings.
“We have been told there are going to be schools closed in Malahide Township,” he said.
