Police chief about McDonald: “Somewhat erroneous”

Chief Andre Reymer used some diplomatic language in telling Aylmer Police Services Board Tuesday, April 12, that town Councillor Ted McDonald was way off base in recent financial criticism of the cost of municipal policing.

Cr. McDonald, claiming that Aylmer’s policing costs were among the top one percent in the province, tried to get town council on Tuesday, April 7, to call on the Ontario Civilian Police Committee to authorize a “reduction in service” here. His effort was defeated in a 5-1 vote, with Mayor Greg Currie insisting any such request to the OCPC should be made by PSB, not council.

Chief Reymer, claiming he “didn’t begrudge the inquiry” from Cr. McDonald, also labelled it as “appropriately defeated.” Only the board had the authority to make such a request, and the claims made by the councillor were “somewhat erroneous.”
