Man identified in fatal Jeep crash

Mike Wodzinski, 38, of Aylmer was killed after the orange Jeep he was driving was involved in a three-vehicle crash on Belmont Road at Yorke Line south of Belmont at about 6:45 a.m. Friday, April 22.

Elgin County Provincial Police released Mr. Wodzinski’s name on Monday morning, April 25, after his family was notified about his death.

Elgin OPP Constable Troy Carlson said the Jeep came up on a tractor-trailer turning north onto Belmont Road from Yorke Line.

The Jeep struck the transport truck on the driver’s side and then rolled over onto its driver’s side and was immediately struck by a pickup truck that was travelling south on Belmont Road.

Mr. Wodzinski,  the lone occupant of the Jeep, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and lone occupant of the pickup truck was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the transport truck wasn’t injured.

All drivers were wearing their seat belts, the OPP spokesman said.

Belmont Road between Wilson Line and Borden Avenue was to remain closed until the early afternoon while the investigation continued.
