Two local men dead in crash north of St. Thomas

CrashHighburyThe passenger of a pickup truck, Jerimiah Hakeem Krahn, 20, of Aylmer was pronounced dead at the scene of a three-vehicle crash that occurred on Highbury Avenue south of Ferguson Line northeast of St. Thomas in the late morning of Friday, Aug. 5. The driver of the silver Dodge pickup, David Guenther, 47, of Bayham, died later that day in hospital. This photo of the demolished pickup was taken at about 1:40 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5. Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police Constable Adam Crewdson said the call to emergency personnel came in at about 11:40 a.m. that day. The three occupants of the other vehicles were taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. In addition to the pickup, the other vehicles involved were a white Sterling dump truck and a black Dodge car. Middlesex County OPP Const. Liz Melvin, filling in for Const. Crewdson on Monday, Aug. 8, said the dump truck was travelling north on Highbury Avenue south of Ferguson Line when it veered into the southbound lane and struck the black car which was travelling south. The dump truck then struck the southbound pickup head on, Const. Melvin said. The driver of the dump truck, a 42-year-old London man, the driver of the car, a 43-year-old Strathroy woman, and a passenger of the car, a 24-year-old London man, have all been released from hospital. The roads in the area around the crash were closed into the evening of Friday, Aug. 5.
