“God had other plans” for Rev. Jones

normanjonesRev. Norman Jones will mark the 60th anniversary of his ordination as a minister on Nov. 28. Born, raised and educated in Wales, Rev. Jones came to Canada in 1965 and first served as the pastor of Straffordville United Church and sister congregations in Vienna and Port Burwell for two years. He later served as the pastor at Aylmer St. Paul’s United Church for 27 years before “retiring” in 1997. He now preaches part-time at Aylmer Christian Reformed Church and other churches throughout the region. Here Rev. Jones is seen in the study of his Aylmer home with a stained glass artwork behind him that was specially made and given to him by his son Gareth and daughter Rhian.

Congratulations to clergyman that truly practices what he preaches. I’ve known Rev. Norman Jones since he was the Minister at Straffordville United Church and I served on the Official Board at St. Paul’s United Church in Aylmer for a number of years. I was on the board and instrumental in the church moving away from parsonages and going to a housing allowance to facilitate ministers being able to build their own equity during their career. Norman could be counted on to resolve whatever the challenge presented in a very fair and christian way. I also remember many Rotary meetings that Norman enriched and help our Aylmer Rotary Club flourish. My hat’s off to Norman for serving God’s community for sixty years, a job well done!
