Carolina “Carola” M. Dekker-Zutt

DEKKER-ZUTT, Carolina “Carola” M. passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at the age of 61 surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. Carola was born in Warmenhuizen, the Netherlands on Dec 6th, 1958.  As a little girl Carola already had a love of art and would sketch cartoon scripts using crayons, markers or whatever she could get her hands on. But upon realizing her genuine artistic talent, Carola’s father challenged her to hone her gift and explore other mediums and methods of painting. It was then that her curiosity led her to pick up a painting brush and so her journey began. Carola explored watercolour, brush technique classes and portrait courses. Then in May 1995 Carola immigrated to Aylmer, Ontario, Canada together with her husband and 3 kids. It was in Canada that Carola really discovered her niche; bringing the details of simple things to life. She could often be found at the beach, one of her favourite places, collecting driftwood, stones and other treasures for a new piece of art. Besides quality time spent with her loved ones, her art was what brought her so much joy and was her avenue to truly express who she was. Despite the many hurdles she faced, Carola remained positive and chose to love and care for whomever she crossed paths with. She came into our lives, leaving footprints on our hearts, and we will never be the same. She will be forever treasured, loved and profoundly missed by her children Annemarie Penner, Niels, and Jeanette Dekker, son in law Henry Penner, daughter in law Julia Rajtek, and by her grandchildren Evan, Aleah, and Julian Penner who were her pride and joy, as well as her brothers, family, friends and the multitude of people whose lives she touched along the way. Carola was predeceased by her parents Corrie and Cees Zutt, and her brother Paul Zutt. In keeping with Carola’s wishes cremation will be taking place at Wareing Cremation Services. The family would like to thank the Care Partners Team 2 nurses Monique and Laura, as well as nurse practitioner Helen for their excellent care and kindness. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 1 p.m. at Faith St. Thomas Church 345 Fairview Avenue, St. Thomas, Ontario
